Wednesday Night Racing
RACERS!!! RACERS!!! RACERS!!!
Excellent news! Wednesday night racing is back for 2022, with a brand new focus on increasing our membership and building our skills. We have been in contact with the Corp of Engineers, and they have agreed to our scheduled list of Regattas.
In the past, we have raced rather informally on Wednesdays, and have only had one actual regatta, the Corn Coast Regatta, as well as a buoy series and a long distance series. This year we are planning on shaking things up a little, in the hopes of increasing participation and encouraging new sailors to come race and build their skills.
This year, our Wednesday night races will be divided into three actual regattas, each one comprised of six weekly races. There will be a Spring, Summer, and Fall Regatta. These will take the place of our Corn Coast Regatta, and will be run as formal races. Boats will be divided into classes whenever possible. There will be one week intervals between regattas for practice sessions on Wednesday nights. Trophies will be awarded for each Regatta.
Boats shall be issued unofficial PHRF handicaps, based on information derived from PHRF (midwest) records. Special modifiers will be issued in certain circumstances, see Race Instructions for details.
In addition, all boats will be expected to share responsibility for committee boat duty. See Race Instructions for details.
We will also be hosting another Regatta, organized by the new Midwest Sport Boat group. This Regatta will attract sailors from around our region, and will be open for Club Members as well. There will be a Sport Boat division, and an alternative long distance division for non Sport Boats. We encourage everyone to register for this weekend event, which will feature after race food and beverages.
We are discussing other possible Regattas as well, as we are feeling out our member's interests. A Dinghy Regatta, and a Women at the Helm Regatta have both been mentioned. We are open to suggestions. Feel free to reach out to Bryant Alexander with your ideas.
We are looking forward to an exciting and challenging race season! Stay tuned to our website for more detailed information.
