The 13th annual regatta, sponsored in part by Karl Chevrolet and HyVee, was held on August 20-21, 2016 at Saylorville Lake.
Three buoy races were run on Saturday. Saturday racing proved challenging with winds gusting over 25 mph. Following racing, cocktails and dinner was held at the American Legion in Polk City. Jethro's provided a beautiful feast with 3 smoked meats and lots of side dishes. Social Chair Donna Nelson topped dinner with brownies and ice cream.
On Sunday, one distance race was run. Winds were variable but more reasonable at 12-15 mph. Lunch followed at the American Legion with awards presentation. First place overall winner of the regatta went to Matt Gundlach on Spar Wars, second place to Ed Dixon on Tri-Power, and third place to Fred Eiteman on Carefree. Full race results are posted below.
The regatta was planned and organized by Vice Commodore Ed Dixon. Matt Stence acted as PRO. Lots of volunteers helped with regatta planning, race committee and social events such as Bill Spyksma, Chris Gorley, Donna and Craig Nelson, Dick Leaders, Dean Drevlow and George Buckingham. Special thanks is extended to our sponsor Karl Chevrolet as well as HyVee for donating breakfast foods. Photos were provided by Chris Gorley.
